Senior Systems Administrator
PivotLink is growing quickly and is seeking an experienced Senior Operational Systems Administrator to fill a key role in its operations team. This position will facilitate stable growth of both internal and customer-facing production environments. The successful candidate will be empowered with a large degree of responsibility and autonomy in the course of carrying out short and long term projects. This candidate will be a thorough, organized self-starter who works well in a small, expert team environment, and will be expected to independently leverage extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the design and delivery of IT engineering projects, working independently and as part of a team
- Participation in 24/7 on-call rotation
- Installation, configuration, and support of mission-critical server systems in high-availability SaaS data center environment
- Recommend alterations and enhancement to improve quality of products and/or procedures based on regular analysis of operating environment
- Provide expert consultation in the design and implementation of technical products and systems in support of business objectives
- Independent analysis and resolution of problems associated with server hardware, networking, and applications software
- Specification, implementation, and maintenance of internal IT systems and services (phone, email, VPN, etc.,)
- Desktop Unix/Linux and Windows system deployments for internal clients
- Documentation of systems, processes, and procedures in areas of responsibility
- Perform system backups and recovery
- Maintain data files and monitor system configuration to ensure data integrity
- Test and evaluate network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements
Required Skills
- Familiarity with standard enterprise-level IT concepts, best practices, and procedures
- Experience with Linux server implementation and management SNMP, Nagios, Cacti, etc. production monitoring systems a big plus
- Working knowledge of common Internet communications protocols including DNS, SMTP, and HTTP
- Experience with low level troubleshooting tools such as Ethereal, tcpdump, and strace
- Knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to help design and install internal and external networks
- Demonstrated commitment to SaaS best practices relative to availability, security, and capacity planning

- This position requires a positive attitude, attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills in a start-up environment
- The ability to reliably evaluate and adapt open-source software solutions to meet business requirements is highly valued
